Controller Selection Information
- Transfer Switches
-
Transfer switch fire pump controllers route two sources of power to the fire pump motor. Typically, one is a utility
source connected to the normal side of the transfer switch controller and the other is a standby emergency generator
connected to the emergency side. Although, both sources can be a utility when option U or modifications 26, 27 or 28
are provided.
-
These controllers are used when a second source of power for the fire pump is desired or required. It is required by NFPA 20
when the building height exceeds the pumping capacity of the fire department or when the AHJ deems the utility power at that
location unreliable.
